Sony’s official Playstation blog has released news of the latest firmware update for PS3. Before I go into what the update is I should start by telling you what it isn’t. This is not in-game XMB - lest we get our hopes up once again. Neither is this a fix for those unlucky gamers who are having GTA IV issues.

Konami’s hugely anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has officially gone gold, Konami announced today, in preparation for its iworldwide launch on June 12, 2008.

(NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that a demo for its highly anticipated summer release, Battlefield: Bad CompanyTM will be available on Xbox LIVETM Marketplace* and PLAYSTATION® Store* on June 5. Players will land on the battlefield as part of the ‘B’ or Bad Company, a wayward band of soldiers more interested in the pursuit of gold and personal financial gain than following the rules. Gamers will get a sneak peek at how tactical destruction changes the way shooters are played, both offline and online in the single player and multiplayer demo.

Today Electronic Arts announced that Skate 2 is currently in development for the PlayStation 3 and the XBox 360. The original Skate was developed by EA Black Box for the 360 and PS3 in September of 2007. Tony Hawk, the king of skating games til that point, was handily thrashed by Skate by a 2 to 1 margin. Activision has revamped the Tony Hawk line in an attempt to regain the crown. A release date has not been announced but once we hear one, we’ll pass it on.

Normally we don’t like to pick on a fellow gaming website. Hey, we’re all in this because we love the games. But the folks over at GameTrailers have tried to pull a fast one which, had they not been caught by eagle eyed PS3 fans, would have made the 360 appear the superior machine. Turns out a “comparison” of two demos of GRID by Codemasters was fake.

Normally SEC filings are not the place to look for the latest gaming news. But thanks to some observant financial types, we have learned that Electronic Arts has taken out a $1 Billion loan from Morgan Stanley and other lenders, possibly to finance a take over of Take Two.

One of the top PSN games around for PS3 is PixelJunk Monsters. The tower game genre has been around for some time but PJM brought a bit of 2D quirkiness (with a nice level of HD polish as well). Good news then as the official US Playstation Blog has info on the release date of the next installment of tribe-saving antics.

Everyone loves delays, don’t they?
It saddens us to tell you that Killzone 2 has officially been delayed until February of 2009. During the speeches today at PlayStation’s event in London, it was announced that Killzone 2 will be pushed back to 2009.

Speaking on the official US PLayStation blog, Echochrome producer Kumi Yuasa promised that user-created puzzles will be readily available to download.
The best thing about this is that update to these downloads are planned to be made available on a regular basis, and they will be free.[/sum]
